AdvisoryStraight, practical advice — from board-level strategy to the calls made every day in the business.
“What stood out to me wasn’t that he was the most technical person in the room — it’s that he didn’t need to be. Brian’s strength was always seeing the bigger picture and knowing what the business actually needed, then building a team around him that could deliver it. If you’re looking for an IT leader who thinks commercially, builds strong teams, and focuses on outcomes rather than technology for its own sake, Brian’s someone I’d recommend without hesitation.”

In the field

Out with growers. Most of the systems I have run start in a field like this one and end on a supermarket shelf.

01 — Practice

When a business calls me

Four situations come up again and again. If you recognise yours here, drop me a line.

  • ↳

    Your CIO has just left.

Continuity at board level from the first week, rather than a six-month gap while you search. I hold the role, keep the portfolio moving, and hand over cleanly to whoever you hire.

  • ↳

An ERP programme is in trouble.

SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, Salesforce. I have run them, stabilised them, and provided strategic advice to boards and executive colleagues on how to realise value.

  • ↳

You have bought, sold or merged something.

Integration or separation. I merge businesses onto one platform, or split them cleanly apart.

  • ↳

You do not need a full-time CIO yet.

Executive technology leadership a few days a month — strategy, governance, vendor and budget ownership — sized to the business you actually are. Practical, day-to-day advice as much as boardroom strategy.

02 — Engagements

Three ways to work together

The seat, the scope and the cadence are set to what the business needs.

Full-time / Interim

Full-time or interim CIO

A permanent seat on the executive team, or a defined three-to-twelve-month appointment — covering a vacancy, or carrying a transformation to a defined end point. Full accountability for the technology function, either way.

Fractional

Fractional CIO

One to several days a month. Strategy, governance, architecture direction, vendor and budget ownership for businesses that need the seniority without the salary.

Advisory

Advisory & board

An ongoing retainer or an advisory/non-executive seat. Building strategy, programme assurance, technology due diligence, and a straight opinion before a board commits capital.
